Gate to Daisho-in temple. Can't wait to come back here in the fall - such a beautiful walk/hike.
The locals knit hats and place them on the statues - we have learned they do this for good fortune and to take care of the spirits who have passed away.
They also place yen coins on their heads.
Love the tanuki statues. It is much easier to find these than to see the real thing. These are like a cross between a coyote and a raccoon.
