We got to go see some amazing Christmas lights - or rather Winter Illuminations as it seems they are called throughout Japan. Christmas is not celebrated here the way it is in the states (makes sense since most people are not Christian). However, they do enjoy very large light shows, and they are amazing! We wanted to see the illuminations in Hiroshima, but due to Covid, Hiroshima was off limits for us when we were planning to go see them. Luckily, there was another option, a bit further away, but beautiful! The Bihoku Hillside Park was about a 3 hour drive away. We splurged on this drive and took the toll roads. We saved about 45 minutes, which was worth it since we were only doing an evening trip. Every little bit of time on the road made a difference. Next year, we'll make it a full day trip or a weekend trip.
We got to see actual Fireworks while we were here! See video below. ⬇️
Thank goodness chicken and fries seem to be a universally acceptable street food, or our boys might possibly starve. 😂
See video here 👇 for some of the festive entertainment.
This was the first really cold night we'd experienced in a while, so we were grateful for a very large fire out in the middle of the festivities.
Hearts are a Christmas-y thing here.
Despite the cold, and the long, late drive home, we had a fun time, and the boys remember this as one of their favorite Christmas activities. ❤
